BAM 2011, Bharatpur, Nepal
Binaytara Foundation (BTF) is pleased to announce the Advances in Medicine: A Bridge of Knowledge, A Bridge to the Future conference to be held at BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Bharatpur, Nepal on May 13-14, 2011. There will be a second conference as well in Pokhara, Nepal on May 16, 2011. These conferences will highlight the pioneering methods, such as telemedicine, that are central to the BTF mission of addressing global health problems. A distinguished representative from the US Embassy to Nepal will be the chief guest for the conference in Bharatpur.
The conference in Nepal will be coordinated by Dr. Angel Magar of the Nepal Medical Association and Executive Editor of the Journal of the Nepal Medical Association. The first day of the conference will feature expert speaker presentations on topics related to advances in clinical medicine. The second day will feature “Meet the Professor” sessions with medical students, recent MBBS graduates, and resident physicians. The agenda for these meetings is available here.
This conference aims to promote evidence-based medicine, to inspire young physicians, and to facilitate global participation and cooperation. We believe that the sequela of this conference and similar efforts are to bridge the technology and knowledge gaps between developed and developing nations.
BTF also intends to help train physicians in developing countries in fields related to infectious disease, hematology, and oncology. In countries such as India and Nepal there is a relative scarcity of specialists in such fields. Enhancing education opportunities for native physicians via conferences such as this will help control/manage endemic diseases more effectively. This is especially important in light of the fact that the incidence of non-communicable diseases such as cancer are rising every year, adding to the global health burden of communicable disease such as AIDS and tuberculosis.
